A BRIEF HISTORY OF UMBRIAN WINES

Our territory is home to vineyards introduced by the Etruscans, and it is thanks to them that we can trace the history of vine cultivation in this area back to its origins.
The geological characteristics and the shape of the Umbrian landscape, the cultivation exclusively on hillsides, the generally loose, porous soil, and the particularly mild climate allow for the production of particular wines of unique qualities (certified variously as DOC, DOCG, IGT or IGP wines). Travelling the roads through the hilly countryside, with their wealth of vineyards and olive groves alternating with tracts of woodland forests of oaks, holms, chestnuts, pines and paths running alongside boundaries marked by dry stone walling, visitors can come across wine cellars and ancient villages, nestled in the gently rolling hills. These enchanting areas play a vital role in making the local environment unique.

The red wines are particularly characteristic, with complex aromas, rich in notes of wild berries and of undergrowth fruits, and dry, full flavours, with sweet spice notes. These wines are particularly suited to accompanying red and game meat, which are among the principal ingredients of traditional Umbrian cooking.


The white wines are generally crisp, with aromas dominated by citrus notes and dry flavours, characterised by notes of unripe fruit. They can accompany starters, white meat and, above all, soups, which are also a feature of local cooking.
